Indigenous History Month Feature – Carter Simpson

As we continue to honour the many Indigenous nations and communities for Indigenous History Month, we also celebrate and acknowledge the Indigenous athletes who help make our Engage Sport North community strong and proud!

This week, we want to highlight an athlete who has participated in our programs for the past year.

Carter Simpson is a basketball and hockey player who belongs to the Gitxsan nation and currently lives and plays on the traditional territory of the Lleidleh T’enneh First Nation.

He is from the Killerwhale clan and the house of Sgogam Lax Ha. At 13, Carter made the All-Star Team for the U-13 division at the 2023 Junior All-Native held on Snuneymuxw territory. In July, he will represent Team BC in basketball for the U-14 boys team at the North American Indigenous Games.

Carter enjoys playing hockey in both PGMHA and the Aboriginal Youth Hockey Championships in Prince George.

His favourite NBA team is the Toronto Raptors, and he likes to play Pokémon Go, work out in his garage gym, and make basketball video edits in his downtime.

Today and every day, we celebrate Carter and the many Northern BC athletes who work hard and develop themselves as athletes and leaders.
