New partnership with Local Rental Solutions supports Northern BC Indigenous Athlete Grant

March, 2022

Prince George’s Local Rental Solutions – a well-known local equipment rental and sales company – has joined forces with Engage Sport North to  help remove accessibility barriers and grow sport opportunities in northern BC

Local Rental Solutions partnered with Engage Sport North and I-SPARC in 2020, to help fund the Northern BC Indigenous Athlete Grant (NBCIAG), which provides funding for travel and sport participation to northern Indigenous youth athletes.

Following a successful grant cycle, we followed up with Local Rental Solutions to learn more about what this grant means to them.

At Local Rental Solutions (LRS), they believe that sport helps remove barriers while creating confident, healthy and productive members of our society. “Sport has had a positive impact on our entire family,” says Dustin, President of LRS. “It instills sound work ethic and healthy living with a sense of community.”

When asked why LRS supports the NBCIAG in particular, Dustin replied, “to help create equitable access for often remote Indigenous communities. We believe in supporting ‘Truth & Reconciliation’ with active participation.”

LRS believes that the NBCAIG is very important for local Indigenous youth as it helps create access and remove barriers that exist specifically where we work and play.

While Dustin plans to continue moving forwards with his support of the NBCAIG, he urges other local businesses to participate as well. “I encourage businesses to reach out and learn more about what they can do to remove barriers and provide support to Indigenous youth and athletes in northern BC.”

Whether through funding, volunteering, or participating, there is an opportunity for everyone to make local sport more accessible, especially in our region.
